I guess the title of this post is a little negative, but too be honest I really have felt pretty confused and worried for most of the last two days!
So we left off last time with me on the beach, so how can the tides have turned (not excusing that pun!) so quickly you ask? We’ll let me tell you!! I went down to Koh Chang thinking I was meeting my other friends Sophie & Joel in BK on 8th, 3 days after I arrived in Koh Chang, but when I re-read our correspondence it turns out it was the 7th we were meeting!!!!!!!! So massive panic, confusion and stress ensued where I ended up getting a refund (lucky!!) on my room for the night and tried to plan a night trip back up to BK on 6th, but it turned out the last ferry was at 16:30 so I would literally have only had 3ish hours on the beach!!! This was just not acceptable but I felt terrible at being late up to see the guys, but in true Sophie fashion she was chilled about it so I stayed another night (got my room back!) and left first thing in the morning.
Now this may have been the end of the stress but unfortunately it wasn’t… Mum you should probably stop reading now as my next adventure wasn’t my safest decision ever!!
So I had arranged for a taxi to get me at 6am which I waited 20 mins for before deciding it wasn’t coming, and with the 1 road on that stretch of the island being pretty dead I decided no taxi was going to be just passing by anytime soon! I’d already checked out and I wanted to get back to BK for dinner at least so I started to panic a little, then a moped stopped next to me and a Geordie guy asked if I needed a lift…. I told him I needed a lift to the dock but it was like 30 mins drive away but it was nice of him to offer… Then he offered to drive me anyway!!! Now all my instincts were telling me NOT to get on the back of a moped at 6:30 in the morning with a total stranger, but I literally had no other options, so after a quick risk assessment of how much he may have drunk (!!!!) and questioning his motives extensively, I reluctantly hopped on.
Now not only was I petrified this guy now could do whatever he wanted with me, I’d also never been on the back of a moped before so was even more terrified!!!! All in all I’ve never been so scared in my life but thank god he took me all the way with no problems…. He did lean in for a kiss when I got off though so I guess that was his motive (!!) … Wouldn’t take cash of me or anything! So I went on my merry way from there a little freaked out but safe, and that’s the main thing 🙂
I did eventually get back to BK at 16:30 missing the market with soph but I met up with one of Sarah’s friends Clare and we went to dinner with Soph & Joel that evening to Joel’s cousins VERY pricey but absolutely amazing restaurant Bo.Lan … Which leads me on to the final stressy thing I wanted to share quickly which is money!!!!!!!
I have found all this budgeting/spending all quite stressful actually, I’m over my daily average of £25 a day and it’s because I haven’t been staying in cheap places and I took a very short but not massively cheap trip to Koh Chang which I probably wouldn’t have done if I hadn’t confused my dates up! People keep assuring me it’ll be cool and ill balance it all out in the end with Cambodia & Vietnam being pretty cheap and I finally embarrassed a proper cheap room (next stop dorms!!!!) so fingers crossed!
Hopefully my nerves on the money front will chill out when I hit the beach again on Saturday for the run up to Full Moon!! (Another detour with Sarah’s group but well worth it I reckon).
Sorry that was a pretty long post but I fancied sharing, so if you don’t like it you know where the ‘back’ button is! 😉
