So apparently it’s Thursday but to be honest I don’t know and actually I don’t care! One of the best things about travelling is that every day is a Saturday and every night is a Friday night!
So far, having landed in Colombo Sri Lanka on what I think was Wednesday morning, I’ve mostly been fighting off a severe case of Jet Lag, which pretty much consumed my first day here, whilst meeting some very cool people at my hostel. Im being hosted by the lovely BED Hostels here in central Colombo and so far they have been gems and already feel like friends.
After finally getting into my room at 3pm yesterday (after having arrived at 6:30am!) and taking a much needed snooze, I was feeling good enough to at least make the most of my first night back in Asia!
Although not quite the night I was expecting! A few bevies at the hostel was followed by a pub quiz in a pub called The Manchester which was distinctly English (you travel half way around the world to end up back in an English pub…go figure!), followed by a few hours in a Casino…very bizzare. I was tempted by promises of free booze and food (which surprisingly materialised in the hopes you’ll spend more!), but I’m savvier than that and let the guys spend their weight in Rupees while I reluctantly parted with only 1000 (£5.00).
Then the ‘wall’ hit …It was 2am and I finally craved my bed like a desert craves the rain. Nothing felt sweeter than falling into my (surprisingly comfy) dorm top bunk where the deepest sleep I’ve had in a long time took hold.
Today I’m feeling damn good and a day of sightseeing awaits! Here is today’s (intended!) itinerary:
Curry and Rice
I’m sure I’ll soon get sick of this classic Sri Lankan dish, but until then I cannot wait to try this little baby, and The Pagoda Tea Room in is the place to go apparently. Food was one of the main reasons why I first wanted to visit Asia, and it did not fail to impress…yum!
I’ve been dreaming of Sri Lankan sunsets for a while now and today is the day I will plonk my little bum in the best position I can find to experience the legendary pink and orange sunsets. A G&T in hand at the Galle Face Hotel sounds like a winner.
Crabs & Cocktails
Ok, so my bank balance might not be in the best shape after these 2.5 weeks in Sri Lanka, as it’s not quite as cheap as it’s neighbouring Thailand…but a transitional period is in order methinks, so crab (my all time favourite food) will be sort out and eaten at The Ministry of Crab for dinner tonight!! Along with some yummy cocktails of course (PS. my backpacking adventure will surely go downhill on the sophistication scale after this! Barefoot and buckets coming up soon!)
So you will soon learn food mainly rules my life! Apparently there is a museum and a nice park which I might take a look at but we shall see, and tomorrow might have some White Water rafting in store just outside of town with some peeps here at the hostel….I’ll let you know!
So all of today will be spent solo, I love travelling on my own, it means I can do what I want when I want, but there is always someone around when you want to socialise..winner winner chicken dinner!
Anywho, look out for my photos on Instagram & Facebook over the coming days and hopefully a new vlog in the not to distant future 😉
Many thanks to BED Hostels for hosting me so far. As always, you receive my honest opinions regardless of who is footing the bill.
