17th June 2014:
So you may remember last time I blogged from Loas I was feeling a little sick & sorry for myself waiting for the 18hr bus journey back to Chiang Mai… Well that little sick feeling turned into a 3 day stomach bug from hell and the 18hr journey (which coincided with my illness!!!!!) turned into 26hrs!!!!!! Suffice to say it was probably the worst 3 days of my life as I’ve never had that sort of sickness (you know what I’m talking about!!!) for that long, never had it whilst in a rocking steaming hot bus toilet, never had it whilst changing buses 5 odd times and never had it whilst Greg got a super severe leg infection… couldn’t walk & was in serious pain (cuts from rocks whilst tubing!) at the same time! We were a right pathetic pair and couldn’t look after each other 🙁 I was so sick I couldn’t even take him to hospital the night we got to Chiang Mai 🙁 he could have lost his leg!!!! So I’m pretty sure we picked both viruses up from the river in Vang Vieng whilst tubing which I guess isn’t that surprising!
Anyway after that drama our plans to fly down to Bali together a few days later went out the window as we were grounded in Chiang Mai for 2 weeks while Greg was admitted to hospital then put on a course of anti-biotics …. It was a tad boring and once he was out of hospital it felt like Groundhog Day as we ended up doing the same thing everyday… Drinking! In the same bars lol and curfew was still in force so no major nights out 🙁
Last weekend when gregs leg was pretty much back to normal size & colour we went down to Bangkok for our last weekend together as I was off to Bali as planned, but unfortunately Greg had to stay as his dad is coming over to see him, which is great news but meant we aren’t able to finish both our last 3 weeks together in SEA & fly back to London together as hoped – “I thought you were there till oct” I hear you say… I’ll come to that in a minute! So we will have to meet back up in London in July 🙁
Having had done a big goodbye after Vietnam I was dreading this, and it’s only for 3 weeks!!!! Honestly I was an emotional wreak but we ended our time in SEA together in style 😉
So … A bit of explaining on the coming home early thing… Well I suppose I’ve had travellers fatigue now for around a month and with the illness and grounding in Chiang Mai I’ve decided to skip Malaysia and cut indo short and go home around beginning July. I know this sounds mad but I’m so home sick that a lot of the amazingness here is now being lost on me.. I’m getting a little anti-social as I can’t be bothered with the energy required to keep making new friends and basically I just miss home. I’ll probably regret it 2 weeks after getting back (I won’t go back to work for a month so that’ll help the transition!!) but it feels like the right thing now. I will have been to all the places I really wanted to go – Gilli being the last of them – and I can always come back! So I guess I’ll see you all soon 🙂 oh and it means I get to come back for some of the London summer which I love and won’t have the shock of the horrible British weather in October as was originally planned!!!!!!!!!
So I’m currently in Kuta, Bali and it sux so off to Ubud tomorrow for a few days then Gili T for about a week I think, then we’ll see 🙂
