Sooooo, this is my first official yearly round up and oh what a year it has been.
I’m calling 2014 Year Zero. This time last year I was 2 weeks away from starting the journey of a lifetime; 6 months travelling Southeast Asia, which would ultimately lead me to see my life in a whole new way and change my perspective on EVERYTHING.
In April I met my boyfriend in Thailand and we are now planning on moving abroad together and I’m taking my career in a whole new direction, leaving the world of FMCG Marketing behind for a new life as a Travel Blogger!
6 Weeks motorbiking Vietnam
As part of my travels I ended up spending 6 weeks in Vietnam where I bought a motorbike and rode the length of the country! Madness….but most definitely the biggest highlight of my year.
Meeting my (English!) boyfriend in Thailand
Only I would travel half way around the world and end up finally meeting the man of my dreams 🙂 We spent 2 months straight together in Thailand after meeting in Chiang Mai during Songkran and then got together properly when we landed back in the UK in July.
Travelling relatively poor countries like Cambodia & Vietnam really allowed me to appreciate my life more and not take things for granted. I also learnt to be more sensible with my money!
Coming back home with a thump
Dealing with the emotions of being back home after 6 months abroad was tough. I felt lost and didn’t know how to move forward with my life…things got better after a while but I still feel very disconnected from my my life as it was in London before I left.
Being homesick and coming home early
As I got nearer to the end of my travels, and actually after leaving Greg in Thailand , while I went on to Bali, I started to get very very homesick and just wanted to come home. This meant I couldn’t really enjoy Indonesia as much as I should have. Gili T was it’s saving grace and I left on a high but it just means I will need to go back again next year 🙂
Getting sick in Laos
I have never, and I mean NEVER been as sick as I was in Laos. It pretty much tainted how I now feel about Laos and basically was the worst 3 days of my life. Think stomach bug, a 26 hour, 4 bus journey from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai, and a boyfriend with a blood infection in his leg!
The last few months of being in limbo
At the moment I am living at home waiting to plan out my future! The plan is to move to Thailand in April 2015 but there is an option to potentially go to Dubai for 6 months first, dependng on whether the bf get’s a job he has gone for, but it’s all a little up in the air at the moment and the lack of control is driving me crazy! Those that know me well know I’m a massive control freak!! lol
So my 2014 was basically a year of two halves, one half an amazing, eye opening adventure, and one half a distinct feeling of being lost, confused and lack of control :/
So here is where I would like to lay out my plan’s for 2015, but to be honest nothing is set it stone! The loose plan is to move abroad somewhere in the first quarter of the year but we shall see!!! watch this space…or better yet sign up to my blog here and never miss an update!
